Combating Gender-Based Violence in Film

Sophia’s project aims to raise student awareness about gender-based violence and bias in the filmmaking industry. Organizing opportunities for students to learn inclusive best practices that help prevent inequities, exclusions, and harm in film and theatre productions. Promoting a safer film culture by combatting gender-based and sexual violence in film. Creating heightened awareness and education around consent culture, the intimacy coordination profession, self-defense, self-advocacy, and methods of reporting misconduct.

Sophia is a 3rd year undergraduate double majoring in classics and film.

Accomplishments

  • Provided self-defense instruction and self-advocacy resources to female TFTV students
  • Created mixers and networking events for female film students to encourage interaction and solidarity
